park life

London was graced with a glorious two days of sun last weekend so we spent most of the time lounging in the park with friends, kicking back and enjoying the weather, picnicking and having BBQ's (or 'braii's as they are known by Curt and his fellow South Africans). Little Miss Lila was in her element pushing around her little wooden toddle truck on the grass (an Easter present from Curt's parents that has turned out to be an absolute winner.) We are lucky enough to have some wonderful parks in our area- though my favourite one and the prettiest and closest of all is currently closed for refurbishment...boo! Hope there's many more weekends like this to come...roll on Summer!

These pictures were taken by our friend Vicki who is very talented in the photography department. Love the sequence below of Curt doing his party trick.

the most beautiful cupcakes...

...in the whole world? I really think they could be. Oh my goodness me, I nearly had a heart attack when I just saw these. They are simply breathtaking, more works of arts than edible goods. I not sure I would be able to bring myself to eat one of them! Images found via lecupcake on Flickr. The incredibly talented lady that makes them is called Kylie Lambert.

venice

I thought I'd share some pictures we took on a trip to Venice last year. I've travelled to some exotic places but I can honestly say that Venice is definitely one of the most beautiful, magical places I've ever set foot in. It will always hold special memories for me now as this was where completely unexpectedly (well for me anyway!), Curt proposed. I may have been 5 months pregnant at the time, and we both knew that we'd be getting married somewhere along the line but in my head this was to be at some point in the distant mists of time post arrival of baby, so this was an amazing and wonderful surprise. He'd organised the whole trip for the very purpose of it, and I can't think of a more romantic, perfect setting for it. Top marks to him! Obviously I said yes :)

The picture above is my very favourite (we got a little carried away with all the picturesque beauty of the old buildings, narrow streets and winding canals and took over 300 photos in 3 days!) We were lucky enough to have warm sunshine and clear skies even though we went in February, and some of the best hours were those we spent just wandering along the canals with no particular destination. Stopping every now and then for one of these...

We did the prerequiste gondola ride, which though it stung our wallets in a big way, was a fun way to see the city.

These are a few of my other favourite pictures (but oh it was hard to chose!)

This was the proposal spot (below) It was at about 10pm on the way back to our hotel after a delicious meal in a quirky little restaurant where we sat outside alongside the Grand Canal and an Italian man played the piano. Oh and if anyone was wondering, no he didn't get down on one knee! (Which I'm glad about as I think it might have been too much for me if he did!)

happy days

I made my very first sale on etsy!! Woop! My Belle hair wreath was sent off to its new home this morning. I was a little sad to see it go because it was one of my favourites, however as this is what selling is all about, it's something I'm going to have to come to terms with! Bye bye Belle...

I have also been lucky enough to have my hair accessories mentioned on a couple of very lovely blogs during this past week: over at the fabulous daydream lily and yesterday at paper*cake finds where my newest creation, the Clara hair wreath was featured:

And lastly, the sun is shining again and this morning I came across this most amazing find (below) amongst the cushions and the bedlinen in my local department store. Amongst all of the dreary household paraphernalia It was like a shiny piece of treasure calling out my name, so of course I caved in and had to buy it. It's going to be used as decor for our wedding- that was my excuse for parting with the cash... But of course it will also look great in our home until then and afterwards!

time for tea

Lately all things cups and saucers and lovely vintage cake stands have been filling my mind. I'm trying to find a suitably pretty cake stand for the cupcakes we're having instead of a traditional cake at our wedding, and I'd also love them to be served on mismatched vintage plates (though sourcing about a hundred of these could be tricky!)

These little beauties are from the Tilly Mint range by The Contemporary Design Company ...

Also, as our little Lila bean is soon to be hitting the milestone of her very first birthday, I'm thinkingof having an afternoon tea party celebration in the garden, so I'd love to get some vintage cups and saucers like this one from Marmalady Allsorts on etsy...

Also loving these... (images styled by

And how beautiful is this collection of vintage plates (image by

boudoir

Oh how lovely it would be to have a beautiful boudoir, filled with antique furniture, gorgeous trinkets and vintage dresses. Well I can always dream...

little tomato

When I was backpacking through Australia a few years ago, my friend and I needed to earn some money fast as we were all out of funds. We naively decided the best way to do this was with a few weeks of intensive fruit picking, so I made the dangerous mistake of leaving my job working in a lovely Melbourne cafe and we jumped on a bus to a small town (not sure if you could really call it a town) in inland Victoria with no idea of what we were letting ourselves in for.

It was a rough few weeks. Picking tomatoes is backbreaking, soul destroying work and working in the tomato sorting factory was even worse due to the zombie inducing repetition and lack of natural light. After about 10 hours, you forget that they're tomatoes and they start taking on other strange identities (it doesn't help that most of them are green). The only thing that kept me going was doing ridiculous things like drawing a face on a tomato and documenting its journey around the factory:

We were so happy to get out of that place , but the worst thing of all was that I was so traumatised after the experience that I managed to blow my entire pay packet within one week after I got on a plane and arrived in Cairns!!

pretty cool people

The brilliant images below are all the work of the American photographer Autumn de Wilde. See her website here. She is mainly known for her portraits and commercial work of various musicians. Love her pictures and the people she has photographed. These are my favourites:

These pics of the YEAH YEAH YEAHS performing and backstage are amazing..love that the atmosphere has been captured so completely.

Miranda July: Performance artist…writer…director... actress (the creator and star of one of my very favourite films- ‘Me, You and Everyone We Know) and basically all round amazingly talented lady.

These pictures are of Jack and Meg of The White Stripes...what fantastic, individual style they both have, and I love the last shot of the children in the audience.

me & him

Think how different it would be if you never met the one person who changed everything.

busy hands

Just a quick one to say that I've been busy working on lots of new hair decorations for my etsy shop...preview of one above! So watch this space for more images of the other new designs, which will hopefully be going on sale within the next week. Oh and I've also got my first commission (woohoo!) which is for a baby hair wreath..how very cute is that! Looking forward to getting started on it. If it goes well I'm definitely going to consider doing a childrens range as there are a lot of little flower girls and princesses in training out there who would no doubt love a pretty floral arrangement atop their head!

adventures of a long weekend

Hope you all had a great Easter break. We did a road trip up to the north of England to visit friends in Durham and then spent a few nights at my parents farm. A lot of driving was involved (mostly by Curt which was his choice as he openly admits that my driving makes him extremely nervous. Something to do with my ridiculously short attention span.)

Anyhow we had a wonderful relaxing time, highlights of the weekend included a trip to the coast, where Lila discovered the joys of sand- eating it that is! We also visited an aquaruim and yesterday little lady took her first ride on a carousel, which I think I enjoyed more than she did. Oh and she also tasted a small piece of chocolate for the first time in the form of her very own easter egg from Nanny and Grandpa (which Curt and I will be kindly helping her to eat). Needless to say, it was a big hit.
